We love a good athlete spotlight around here!

This time, we were able to interview Theresa to learn a bit more about her CrossFit journey: what got her started, what keeps her motivated, and some of her favorite things about working out at CrossFit Artifact.

What initially made you decide to try CrossFit? 

I’ve always wanted to try CrossFit. It was perfect that CrossFit Artifact opened up so close to where I live. 

Was CrossFit what you expected it to be? Why or why not?

No, I actually expected not to feel great about myself since I am not a heavy lifter. However, every single person has been super supportive of me no matter what I lift. 

What attracted you to our gym?

 The fact that it is so close to where I live.

Did you have any concerns or fears when you arrived for your first class? If so, how did you feel about it afterward?

I was extremely nervous and had a lot of anxiety when I arrived for my first class. Afterwards, I felt amazing and thought, “oh my goodness, I can do this!” 

What were you looking for in a gym? Do you feel like you’ve found what you were looking for? 

I was looking for a place that made me feel supported and welcomed. I was also looking for a place that had different types of workouts; not the same workouts every single day. 

Yes, I really do feel like I found what I was looking for at CrossFit Artifact!

What one thing do you find most challenging about staying committed? You’ve been a regular for over a year. What are some ways that you stay motivated? 

I have a hard time making the time to go with my busy home life. Some ways that I stay motivated are coordinating my workouts with friends or bringing my daughter with me. 

What were your primary goals when you first started versus now? 

My goal in the beginning was to get stronger. I feel like that is still a main goal, but I also like seeing the weight increase in my lifts, OR, when I get a faster pace on runs or with rowing. 

Speaking of goals, what goal are you most proud of achieving? Do you have any goals you’re working toward this year

I’m proud that I’ve stuck with it. I tend to quit things easily and that has not happened with CrossFit. This is not really a goal, but I’m just hoping to have a nice, toned body for the beach this summer!

Did you try anything in the past to achieve your goals that didn’t work? 

Oh yeah, I’ve joined planet fitness twice and have tried at-home workouts. None of these worked for me! I need someone telling me what to do. Plus, I love the group workouts. 

How do you feel CrossFit Artifact is helping you reach your goals? 

I’m much happier with the way my body looks and feels. It’s also helped a lot with stress and anxiety. 

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit Artifact? 

All the amazing people I get to work out with… and the awesome coaches!! 

What is your favorite lift? 

Deadlift!

What has been your favorite workout? 

I like the partner workouts. 

What was the most rewarding moment you’ve experienced at the gym? 

When I beat my time on the 2k row by 9 seconds! 

What would you tell someone who was considering coming to class but felt nervous? 

Take the class!! You won’t regret it!! 

It’s been incredible to see Theresa’s progress over the last year! We’re so glad she stepped out of her comfort zone and gave CrossFit a try.

Trying something new can be extremely intimidating. We know walking through the door is sometimes the hardest part, but we encourage you to, as Theresa said, take the class! You won’t regret it!
