“Regularly learn and play new sports.” – Greg Glassman
We feel these words are a key part of “World-Class Fitness in 100 Words” as defined by CrossFit Founder, Greg Glassman. (see below for our definition of World-Class Fitness in 100 Words)
What we do at the gym day in and day out is essential because it allows us to “broaden our horizons”, so to speak, in what we are able to do outside the gym.
When all of us come together and learn/play new sports, together as a community, it makes it that much better.
On July 10th, a group of our members met at a local boat club to launch kayaks for a day of sun, fun, paddling, and hanging out. Depending on who you ask, there may have been more hanging out than actual paddling going on!
With our one year anniversary just a few days behind us, it’s incredible to see the relationships and bonds that have formed in such a short amount of time. The term “CrossFit Family” really seems to fit, and for that, we are so grateful.
Our crew didn’t get too far on this trip (think 3+ hours to go approximately 1.5 miles), but we made up for our lack of distance with hilarious commentary, a few capsized ‘yaks that led to lots of laughs, yummy snacks (thank goodness SOMEONE remembered to bring something!), and most importantly, time to chat and get to know one another a little better.
The trip couldn’t have gone better! From the perfect weather to the numerous members who lent out kayaks to those who didn’t have one to use, it was incredible.
We may have even created a few new kayak enthusiasts!
It’s safe to say future Kayak Trips will be planned!

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.
Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast.
Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.
Regularly learn and play new sports.
